Following SEN Funding Cut Protests held in Birmingham today Carolyn Osbourne, MBC Education lawyer comments on the rise in the number of successful appeals of SEN Statement decisions.
Following the protests held today in Birmingham’s Victoria Square over funding cuts affecting children with special education needs and disabilities (SEND), My Business Counsel’s Education Lawyer, Carolyn Osbourne, comments that she has noted the consistent rise in the numbers of families successfully appealing the SEN decisions at tribunal.
Carolyn states that “we have a situation where families who shout the loudest are heard”
Carolyn’s comments are substantiated by the HMCTS Tribunal services statistics (https://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2018-11-21.194228.h) that clearly show a significant rise over the last 3-4 years in the number of decisions being appealed at tribunal, and found in favour of the family.
If you disagree with a decision your local authority has made about your child’s special educational needs (SEN) statement and would like to discuss your options please contact Carolyn Osbourne by emailing [email protected].
