International Human Rights

Jas Uppal has substantial experience in the area of international law and in cases with an international dimension.

Jas has extensive experience in handling and progressing cases of modern slavery, exploitation and abuse of migrant workers, abandoned seafarers, including victims of enslavement, victims of unfair trials and victims of miscarriages of justice and those sentenced to death following dubious convictions abroad including enforced disappearances and historical cases. Enforcing the protective rights of indigenous communities, women and children’s rights.

Advising and undertaking casework in all aspects of international human rights casework on behalf of individuals, organisations, NGOs and charities.

Public Law and Human Right

Jas’s public law practice focusses on judicial review and other human rights claims arising in the context of crime, breaches and within civil claims. Her work includes advising and undertaking casework on the duty to prevent breaches of human rights; challenging orders imposed on individuals by States depriving the individual of their basic human Rights; prison law and police misconduct, homeless and human rights, social care law for the elderly and their human rights.

Regulatory Solicitor

Jas advises businesses in relation about their obligations under the Modern Slavery Act including recognising signs of human trafficking and exploitation. Has extensive experience in information governance and GDPR.

Civil litigation and Family Law

Jas welcomes instructions in cases relating to all aspects of civil litigation, including personal injuries claims and family law.

Other Experience

Represented families of missing POWs in a petition issued the Supreme Court of India.

Jas regularly delivers talks and training (to legal and non-legal audiences) including businesses, charities, university students and women’s groups in all aspects of human rights.
